Restaurants and folks at the tasting room have often told of using mead as a mixer for cocktails. Here are a few we've recorded from various restaurants, pubs, our Whiskey Mead Mixing event, and one party host:
Bee Craft Captiva Caps 1.5oz (this is a light habanero mead)
High West Rendezvous Rye 1.5oz (can be substituted for any high rye or straight rye whiskey)
Orange Bitters 2 dashes
Honey 1/4tsp (warmed)
-Build in a rocks glass. Add one large ice cube. Pour mead and whiskey over ice. Add bitters. Stir well with honey. Serve.
BeeCraft Dark Pearl 1.5oz
George Dickel Barrel Select 1oz (can be substituted for any quality Tennessee Whiskey or low rye whiskey such as Maker's Mark)
*Honey syrup(or simple syrup) 2tbsp
Angostura Bitters 2 dashes
Splash of Water
*Syrup is a 1 to 1 ratio honey to water
-Muddle blackberries, orange peel, honey syrup, and bitters in a rocks glass. Add a large ice cube. Add Mead, Bourbon, and water. Stir for several seconds. Serve.
BeeCraft Wild Georgia Honey or BeeCraft Southern Gal Mead 1.5 oz
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey 2oz (can be substituted for any American Single Malt whiskey)
Suze(or any Gentian Bitters) 1oz
-Add whiskey, Suze, and Mead to a shaker. Shake with ice. Strain into a coupe glass or martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist. Serve.
“Honey Mead Martini” or "Bees Knees"
BeeCraft Wild Georgia Honey (which is semi-sweet) or Southern Gal (which is drier) 1 oz
Gin (Seagram’s, Beefeaters, Gordon’s, etc)
→ A fun twist is BeeCraft’s more tropical “Mangrove Coast” which boasts light zested oranges and Tahitian Vanilla Beans.
“Florida in a Glass”
2 oz. Fino Sherry, 2 oz. BeeCraft’s “Mangrove Coast”, 2 dashes orange bitters
